What can I do?
Dickpics and other harassment via private message
Sending unsolicited penis pictures or other sexual content is a punishable offence. You can take legal measures against this if you want to! This flyer (in German) sets out a number of options you can pursue.
Reporting attacks to platforms
Document harassing messages and postings. Here you can find information on how to document this in a way that will stand up in court. You can then report the account harassing you to the platform. Public content may have to be deleted. In some cases, accounts are blocked if they breach the platform's usage guidelines.
Blocking accounts
On digital services, you can block accounts that are harassing you or sending you other unwanted messages.
Choosing another nickname
You have the right to be visible as yourself. However, if, by way of example, it annoys you that gender stereotypes are attributed to you, or if you are sexually harassed or racially insulted because of your name, you might consider using a different nickname for your online accounts.
Looking for allies, showing solidarity
If you notice that another person is being sexually harassed while gaming or on platforms, step in! Network with other people read as female so you can support each other. You may also report content to the platform, even if it does not concern you, but other people instead.
Taking a break
If you need a break, that's fine. You may take some time out from the spaces where you are being attacked or harassed. But this isn’t necessarily a lasting solution. You don't have to allow yourself to be ousted! Women, girls, trans* and non-binary people have a right to be visible in digital spaces, to play games, to exchange ideas or to be politically active.
Specialist counselling centres can help you with distressing experiences in digital environments.
