What can I do?

There is a lot you can do to stop cyberbullying. It is generally advisable not to respond to cyberbullying attacks, as this could motivate the perpetrator(s) to continue bullying.

The most important thing is not to go it alone; instead you should turn to someone you trust.  With their help, you can set up a support group. The group can get involved online, and comment on - or report - offensive images or videos. Specialist counselling centres also offer support, and can help you process what you have experienced.

Where the content involved is particularly problematic, images and videos can be reported to online platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter. If the report is successful, the content will be deleted. There are EU laws that require platforms to process reports quickly. Otherwise they risk penalties. You can find more information on our subpage.

Information on how and where exactly you can report content on social media can be found here: How and where can I report content and abuse?

One option may also be to block the bullies on social media, thereby limiting opportunities they have for contact. It may also make sense to create a new profile, and only connect with selected people there.
